Our Colonies
A colony is a group of mice of the same strain that are kept together in an animal house: we can think of them as experimental family units. Some common strains may exist in many colonies around the world, while others may be unique to one institution.
Our colonies are different because they are based on when and where they were made. They each have a unique ID that some from the event or locations, e.g. CG is Cultural Geographies. This for the first part of the mouse ID, the last part is made up of the makers initials. The mouse passports and this website is our version of a colony management system.
